Loveland Cactus Grille is back

Cactus Grille

Loveland Cactus Grille is up and running.

Here is a press release on Loveland newest Mexican restaurant.  (Yes, I know there was on before but this one is back in DoLo.)

The Cactus Grille Opens in Downtown Loveland

April 17th, 2013

Loveland, CO- The Cactus Grille, has officially
opened in downtown Loveland, 119 E. Fourth Street.

Owners, Mike Severance, his daughter Chrissy French, and Bar-Manager, Geoff Fleming are excited to bring the Old Cactus back into downtown Loveland. The restaurant features a southwestern style menu along with many options of margaritas including the infamous “Wicked Margarita. The décor of the restaurant resembles a Mexican style village, and has plans of opening an outdoor patio on the east side of the building this summer. Severance is thrilled to be part of the exciting changes that have been occurring in downtown Loveland, and is pleased with the transformations.  ”We’re Loveland people. We love downtown Loveland, and we’re excited to be back and be involved in the community we love.” Severance stated.

The Cactus Grille first opened in Downtown Loveland in April 1988 and was a local hot spot. In 2001, the Cactus Grille opened the second location in the Thompson Valley Towne Center in southwest Loveland. It remained in that location until it closed it doors in the end of 2008.   In late March, The Cactus Grille once again opened their doors with excitement in the air.  Severance said, “We just are overwhelmed with the support we are getting from the community,” French added, “Since I have been a little girl, I have always dreamed of owning not just a restaurant, but a Cactus Grille, and tonight was a dream come true.” French said of the soft opening March 28th, 2013.
Although many of the old favorites will be included on the menu the Cactus Grille will incorporate new dishes that are sure to please. Catering is also available.

Grand opening weekend celebrations are May 17th-19th.

Loveland will have a natural grocery store

Loveland will finally have a natural grocery store.

Crunchy Grocer new location

In my last post about a local Loveland businessman’s quest to bring all natural and fresh organic food to Loveland, I mentioned he was using locavesting.

Seems things are going well because Jonas Buehl announced he has found a location for his new Loveland venture.

Here is what he said on Facebook:

We’re thrilled to finally announce..The Crunchy Grocer officially has a home! We’re planning an October opening. Happy Friday everyone! :)

Look for activity at the location they have selected for what many Sweetheart City residents have wanted for years.  The new store will go be located at 1461 East Eisenhower.
This is were PartyAmerica used to be in the strip mall on the east side of town.

It is located between Office Max and Santiago’s.

Good luck, Jonas!

Wildflower Cabaret launches Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign, seeks $40,000 to put cabaret theater in downtown Loveland
April 9, 2013 – Loveland, Colorado.

Wildflower Cabaret, a professional cabaret and entertainment production company based in Loveland, is launching a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign beginning Monday, April 8 and ending Saturday, June 1. The company seeks to raise $40,000 to build a professional performing arts space in downtown Loveland that can support cabaret shows, comedy, musical theater, original works by regional artists, and children’s theater workshops.
Until recently, Wildflower Cabaret occupied an event center south of downtown Loveland. Last November, the owners of the event center approached Wildflower about revitalizing the failing business and providing live entertainment. Wildflower owners John Seaberry and Sky Cash accepted the offer and turned the operation around with a rejuvenated bar, kitchen and entertainment including original cabaret shows, stand-up comedy and drag queen bingo. But after irreconcilable differences with a business partner, Wildflower was forced to leave the space, losing almost their entire investment, and leaving the stage dark after only three months.

When the theater closed in February, Wildflower attempted to go mobile and searched for already established venues that would take in the existing shows, but struggled fitting the shows into these venues’ schedules and service format. This struggle has proven the need for a permanent home in Loveland where Wildflower can bring original theater and cabaret to a town that is already significant in the arts. The Box Office is turning away several phone calls a day for two shows they
have been advertising since January, and has had to refund thousands of dollars’ worth of promotional pre-sales through Living Social and other advertisers. With the company’s original investment lost, Wildflower is launching a crowd-funding project on Kickstarter.com to open a new performance space in downtown Loveland.

How It Works
Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects, including music, art, dance, technology, design, films and, of course, theater. If people like a project, they can pledge money to make it happen. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. So if the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers’ are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged.

Loveland business closes — suddenly

Loveland has a business that seemed to close literally overnight.

One of my good friends alerted me to the fact that this store is out of business.  It owns her high school-aged son four weeks of pay.  That is bad enough but he was working extra hard to save money for prom.

The business is Mrs. Goodthrift. It is located on north Lincoln in Loveland.  I blogged about this Loveland thrift store that gives its proceeds to nonprofits.

I stopped by today to see what was going on.  Three cars pulled into the lot wanting to do business there.  A note on the door said they closed for family reasons.  They apparently have a few kids.   I don’t know what day the note was posted but it says we are closing today.  Not much notice.

I hope the owner does the right thing and at least pays his employees.
