Loveland Bobservation — Cabrera going, going, gone
Dr. Ron Cabrera is out at the superintendent of the Thompson R2-J School District. I am n0t going to give my opinion on this yet. (I covered the school board meetings for about three years for the Surveyor newspaper.
Cabrera’s last day is the end of the month. It looks like he will get $200,000 and change as a parting gift.
A week or two ago, I saw that one of the two deputy superintendents, Dr. Judy Skupa, is being considered for the Poudre School District interim superintendent.
Two directors for the Thompson School District voted against cutting Cabrera loose–that being Lola Johnson and Len Sherman. Johnson resigned her post with the Loveland-Berthoud area School Board as the result of the ousting of Dr. Cabrera.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Why is he gone?
Did the board make the right decision?
Who should replace Cabrera?
Were proper procedures followed?

I prefer not to share political or religious views on the Internet; however, as a former district employee I do have some thoughts. Cabrera was definitely better than his predecessor, Johnson.
I think the district owes it’s constituents an explanation. Why was Cabrera let go? Did they make the right decision? Well, I would say that depends on who they replace him with and the results they get. I deeply fear that one power hungry person who happens to work in the district is bucking for the job. Hopefully the board will look elsewhere. Were proper procedures followed? Based on the hornet’s nest this seems to have stirred up I would say not.
Thanks for your comments. Let’s see what others think.
An unusual move that seems to warrant a better explanation – both in motive and protocol – than has been offered so far.
It will be interesting to see who replaces Dr. Cabrera.
LovelandPolitics.com has an interesting story answering that question about why he was fired. If only half of it is tue than it was warranted.
You know the board has to follow legal advice not to discuss the details in public so it isunderstandable the position they are in right now to follow legal advice before political advice.
Thanks Wendell. I do read LovelandPolitics blog. They have great insights.
