It is was a horse, they might shoot it

Lovelanders—What do you think about the Greeley Stampede moving this way to a ranch (The Ranch?) near you?

Let’s stir it up a bit. I have heard people saying The Ranch would be a better venue, on many levels, for the annual Greeley event.

It was just announced that the Stampede Executive Director Bill Ogg said the event is “hanging on by a thread.”   It has lost more than $100,000 each year from 2007 to 2009. Ogg feels the take for this year will be a similar lose when the dust settles.  (Pun intended)

Ogg also opined that the annual yeehaw event has what he labeled “a huge potential.”  Unfortunately, many out of work people in the region realize that potential doesn’t pay the rent or buy groceries.

Let’s hear your thoughts.  Is it blasphemous to move the cow town event to 1-25 and Crossroads?   Should the  finances trump tradition?

Bobsheartbeats.com has not taken on anything controversial but I would like to get some blood pumping on this one.

If it moved it would no longer be the Greeley Stampede. It would be the Loveland Stampede or something like that and that’s just not right.

I hope they can make it. It’s been a rough year for festivals of all kinds. If this damn economy would get back on track all the festivals could start making money again.

I understand times are tough, but didn’t the Stampede fire one of their largest sponsors about 3 yrs ago? Seems to me some of the financial woes came about after they stopped taking sponsorship dollars from American Tobacco. What’s a rodeo without chew? Can anyone verify this rumor? I’m not sure a new venue would change the finances of the event.

I usually go to at least one event at the Stampede every year, but this year I did not attend any! I never pay for parking as I have friends that live near there and always parked at their house and walked 4 blocks! I was dismayed at the entrance fee this year. I think they have valid reasons for charging this, but after the ticket prices, the … See Moreparking, the vendors prices, there are few who could afford more than one “event” there this year. As far as moving it here….I am not sure it would be of any great benefit as I am thinking they’d just have to charge the same type of fees anyway!

So they would have the concerts in the Budweiser Event Center and the rodeos where? I agree it wouldn’t be the Greeley Stampede anymore. Is that a bad thing? For Greeley, definitely.

I have also found the pricing puts me at one event instead of two or three.
