Loveland BankOne building?

Loveland “beeps” and occasional readers of the BobsHeartBeats.com blog.  What is going on downtown Loveland (DoLo.)

I did a stroll down Fourth Street in Loveland that I will write up soon.  Some new businesses and an empty space or two.

My question for my readers today is:

What is going on at the BankOne Building located between Lincoln Avenue and Cleveland Avenue?  I reported that John Geiman and Don Overcash moved Sandler Training to the second floor of this bank. (On the north side.)

Now it seems some renovation/retrofitting is happening to the main level on the south side.
Are they getting this ready for a specific business or just making it more marketable?

Beer at the Backbone in Loveland

Lovelanders  — Like beer?  Grimm Brother’s beer?   Here is a press release from Nicole Yost at Fyn Public Relations on an event at the Backbone Gourment Grub and Brewhouse.   It sounds great, and it benefits one of the many great nonprofits in Loveland  — Hearts and Horses.

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Backbone Gourmet Grub & Brewhouse Hosts Jan. 21 Beer Dinner to Benefit Local Nonprofit Hearts & HorsesEvent features comfort-inspired cuisine combined with Grimm Brothers Brews

LOVELAND, Colo. – Jan. 10, 2012 – On Jan. 21, 2012, Backbone Gourmet Grub & Brewhouse will host its first beer dinner to benefit local nonprofit Hearts & Horses. The beer dinner will pair three courses of Backbone’s comfort-inspired cuisine with complimenting Grimm Brothers Brewhouse beer, all for an affordable price of $25 per person. 10 percent of all proceeds from the evening will go to support the work of Hearts and Horses in Loveland.  5:30 and 7:30 p.m. seating times are available.  The event corresponds with the release of Grimm Brothers Brewhouse’s newest specialty brew – 7 Ravens, a Schwartbier. This is a dark German lager that balances roasted yet smooth malt flavors with moderate hop bitterness.  The Backbone is the only restaurant with access to Grimm’s specialty brews in addition to what’s on tap. The beer will be paired with Backbone’s newly created dish, a beef stroganoff, which is the highlight of the dinner.

The full menu for the evening is as follows:  ·

  •  Appetizer: Thai Lettuce Wraps (a delicious blend of chopped chicken, crisp vegetables with a Thai peanut sauce served with crunchy lettuce cups) paired with a sampling of Grimm Brother’s The ‘Griffin’-German style Hefeweizen combination of wheat, barley and special yeast makes this unfiltered wheat beer a quaff of lore. The Weizen yeast produces spicy citrus, clove and pepper.·
  •  Main course: Beef Stroganoff (hearty chucks of our Flatiron steak mixed into a spiced cream sauce with the perfect blend of sour cream and tomato. Diner’s choice of white rice or egg noodles,) paired with a pint of Grimm Brother’s 7 Ravens. ·
  •  Dessert: Chocolate cake (the chefs own raspberry stuffed double layer chocolate cake topped with a “Grimm brothers master thief” caramel mocha frosting and a white chocolate drizzle,) paired with a sampling of Grimm Brother’s Coffee Master Thief, an English Porter with a  dark complexion and subtle coffee flavors.

Since opening on Nov. 8, 2011, the Backbone Gourmet Grub & Brewhouse has planned to launch monthly fundraising events to benefit local nonprofits. Owners Hamid and Janice Eslan are no strangers to giving back to the community and see this as another way to benefit the community of Loveland and those who need it most. Reservations for the dinner are recommended as it will likely sell out early.

Bobservation — Loveland business closing

Loveland’s coffee shop and restaurant scene is ever changing.  Recently, I mentioned the move of the Donut Haus, closing of the Black Cup and the new Organic Cafe.  Now there is another change.

The Mandolin Cafe on Fourth Street in Downtown Loveland will close at the end of the year.  I hadn’t been in there many times, but it seemed like they did a good business.  When my wife and I volunteer at the Rialto, I remember some summer nights walking by the Mandolin, and hearing live music.  The owners seem to think they can find a new location for the business.

This will leave a big gap on Fourth Street, even with the soon-to-be opened Rialto Theater Center.

What would YOU like to see go in where the Mandolin was?

Loveland loses a leader

Fred Anderson

Loveland lost a leader last week.  On Thursday, Fred Anderson passed away.  The former state senator and his wife have
done more for Loveland than most will ever know.

I had the pleasure of knowing both Andersons during my time at United Way of Loveland-Berthoud-Estes Park.  They were great leaders for this organization and others including the House of Neighborly Service and Project Self-Sufficiency.

At Fred’s funeral, it was noted that he was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church. The 83-year-old was baptized at Trinity, even though it was at a different location in Loveland at the time.

One of the quotes on the back of the handout given out at Fred Anderson’s funeral was attributed to Dr. Seuss. It said, “Don’t
cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

Loveland lost a lot when Fred Anderson passed.

Loveland still connected?

I like to read.  I read lots of books and newspapers. One of my weaknesses is those free papers that you find at coffee shops, book stores and other outlets.

When I picked up the Loveland Connection to day, I was surprised to see that the are pulling their hard-copy paper, and only doing online.  (I know this is a trend in many newspapers)

The Loveland Connection is printed by the Fort Collins Coloradoan. Now to see the news they provide, you need to go to their website www.lovelandconnection.com or www.coloradoan.com/Loveland.

They also have a presence on Twitter and Facebook.

I will miss the hard copy, but will get used to it.
