Loveland non-news

Loveland likes to know what is going on in the business world.  BobsHeartBeats.com tries to keep on top of this, with the help of many of my loyal readers. (“beeps”)

I thought I had a news story about a new business on Fourth Street in Loveland, but it is not exactly that.  As I was walking by the old Mandolin Cafe, I noticed a sign for BJ Works and some nice furniture in the window.  Eureka!  A new business?

Not so fast!  After doing some email and phone investigation, I found that BJ Works LLC(Brian Jarvis) has just using the space on a week-to-week basis, thanks to the owner, Barry Floyd.

At least it is better than an empty building, but it would be nice to have a new thriving business in that spot.

What woudl YOU like to see go in this spot vacated by Mandolin Cafe?

Reclaiming Hope

I heard from a couple of good Loveland folks about an upcoming event called Reclaiming Hope   The Founding Fathers, Faith, and Limited Government.   The man and wife who are bringing this presentation to NoCo attend Galillee Church in Loveland.  This church is one of the sponsors for the event.

The other sponsor is Reviving America’s Legacy.  The tagline on their website is Inspired by America’s Godly heritage, we will equip and mobilize the Church to  impact the public square for God’s glory.

Appearing at the event will be David Barton, who is known as America’s Historian.

The hard-working couple (the Rehgs) who are coordinating this event searched unsuccessfully for a location in Loveland to hold it. So, the Friday, May 25 event (6:30 p.m.) will be held at teh Front Range Baptist Church, located at 625 East Harmony Road in Fort Collins.  There is no admission fee but a freewill offering will be taken.

Loveland business sends an S.O.S.

Loveland businesses are coming and going as evidenced by the posts on bobsheartbeats.com
I ready about another Loveland downtown (I still am politicing to call it DoLo) seems to need some assistance.

Here is what is posted on Merchant Voyage Facebook page:

S.O.S.!!! Hello to all of my loyal facebook fans! Merchant Voyage is in trouble, and while it may not be the most appropriate thing to talk about, I have to. We desperately need to raise money by May 1st to pay some back rent or we may have to leave. I so don’t want to leave my shop and my friends. I love coming here everyday to be creative and interact with all of you. Please help us in any way that you can. If you can just help us get the word out or think of some fund raising ideas, small donations, anything will help! Thank you again for your love, help, and support. When you come in for a visit, come up to the counter and whisper “S.O.S.” and receive 20% off your entire purchase excluding a few things on consignment. Thank you again!

When I talked to Mary at Merchant Voyage (246 E. 4th Street, Loveland) she said business declined last year. This caused the business to get behind in their rent.  Things have picked up, but not fast enough she says.  She credits some of the other new businesses on Fourth Street for the latest upswing.

As she said on her Facebook page, Merchant Voyage is offering 20 percent discount on non-consignment items. Tell her wordsbybob sent  you there so she knows Lovelanders read my blog.
I hate to see any business struggle.  This is especially true of a locally-owned one.  Whenever possible, I try to go to local restaurants, coffee shops, book stores, etc.

Loveland Governor’s Art Show

Loveland, Colorado, known for its arts’s community, has been home to the Governor’s Art Show  since 1978.

Well-known Loveland Sculptor George Lundeen  invited other sculptors to show their pieces in his home. Later, the Loveland Rotary and subsequently, the Thompson Valley Rotary became involved. This was the start of the Rotary Sculpture Show.

The original location for the show was the old First National Bank building (now Chase) in downtown Loveland.

With the help of the Rotarians and other community volunteers, the show was expanded to include paintings. The show later moved the Loveland Museum Gallery ,(503 N. Lincoln)  where it is held now.

1990, the show was renamed .the Governor’s Invitational Art Show.  It is now called the Governor’s Invitational Art Show and Sale.

This year’s show is almost upon us.

Gala Reception is scheduled for Saturday,  April 28.

Art Show & Sale runs from Sunday April 29, 2012 to June 10, 2012

Go to this website for tickets or more information on the Governor’s Art Show

Loveland snags a new sport

Loveland has always been on the cutting edge for technology and the arts  Now they are leading the way in sports.

One of my walking routes, the north one, takes me by the Cattail Creek golf course.  The area right on 29th, east of the club house and parking lot, has been a beehive of activity lately.  This area has been a holding area for some large decorative rocks and other materials for quite some time.

Now, every time I drive or walk by, there are front-end loaders, etc. carving out something.  I had to stop and ask at the pro shop what was going on.

It seems Loveland will soon be the home of a SNAG golf course.  What is SNAG golf you ask?   It stands for Starting New At Golf.

SNAG golf is played with only two clubs.  They have large plastic heads, and one is for driving and one for putting.  The new sport uses different terminology for the course, equipment and skills.

This innovative sport helps newcomers to golf, whether they are children, teens or adults, learn the basics of golf in a new way.  It seems that it will be safer and easier to pick up.  The balls used are about the size of a tennis ball, and just as fuzzy.  There are no “hole” in the sport.  One strives to hit the ball so it adhers to a post that has velcro on it.

The Cattail Creek course will be a nine-hole mini-course.  It is a hybrid of a putting course and a SNAG-friendly course.

For more information. go to www.golfloveland.com, www.snaggolf.com or www.CattailCreekGolfCoursecom

Check it out as yo drive on 29th Street or go to the clubhouse for more info.

If sounds like fun.  I have no golf experience, but this might encourage me to give it a try.
