Loveland Kmart safe for now

Loveland residents have been speculating in the last few weeks about whether the Kmart store in town will close.  So, far it looks like it will be open for now.

It was announced by Searsmedia.com that 79 stores will be closing. It appears a total of 100 to 120 may ultimately go dark. The closures in Colorado include Longmont, Glenwood Springs and Broomfield.

To see the complete list of Kmarts closing across the United States go to www.searsmedia.com/tools/122711_close.pdf.

Bobservation — Loveland business closing

Loveland’s coffee shop and restaurant scene is ever changing.  Recently, I mentioned the move of the Donut Haus, closing of the Black Cup and the new Organic Cafe.  Now there is another change.

The Mandolin Cafe on Fourth Street in Downtown Loveland will close at the end of the year.  I hadn’t been in there many times, but it seemed like they did a good business.  When my wife and I volunteer at the Rialto, I remember some summer nights walking by the Mandolin, and hearing live music.  The owners seem to think they can find a new location for the business.

This will leave a big gap on Fourth Street, even with the soon-to-be opened Rialto Theater Center.

What would YOU like to see go in where the Mandolin was?

Bobservation — Loveland icon retires

Loveland Library changing of the guard

After a very long stint as director of the Loveland Library, Ted Schmidt will be retiring March 2 of next year.   Ted has been at the local library for more than three decades.  He will be leaving as the library wraps up its major renovation and expansion.

I am a frequent visitor to the library, and think all the new changes are great.  Ted has always been very forward-thinking. In addtion to running the libary, Ted Schmidt has done a lot in the community.  I first got to know Ted outside the library when I worked for United Way.

I don’t know about anyone else, but my vote goes to Marcia Lewis to be the next director of the Loveland Library.  She has been second in command for many years.

Loveland gets another change to fill up with gas

Fill er up in Loveland

One my my followers, (I call them beeps), told me about a new gas station going up just south of the newest Walmart on the north side of Loveland.

It looks like it is nearing completion.   I know well use a lot of gas, and prices are falling these days.  I just wonder if we need another filling station on this stretch of Hiway 287.  By my count, as you leave Loveland going north, there are eight places to gas up your car in about five miles.

I guess the free-enterprise concept will tell us eventually if we need all of these gas stations or if some will fall by the wayside.

Thanks to Jim Anderson for telling me about this new Loveland business.
