LOVELAND – The nation’s largest outdoor sculpture show is seeking volunteers to perform a wide variety of tasks. “Without the hard work and dedication of each volunteer, this event would not happen,” says Deb Alles, Volunteer Coordinator of the Loveland Sculpture Invitational.

Volunteers are needed for the Loveland Sculpture Invitational to fill positions like golf cart/shuttle driver, ticket sales, show setup and tear down, and much more. The full list of positions as well as the volunteer application can be accessed online at: http://lovelandsculptureinvitational.org/volunteer/ .

The deadline to apply is July 15th. There will be an important and informative volunteer appreciation party and training on Tuesday, July 23rd from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  All volunteers will receive a t-shirt, job assignment(s), and necessary training, during this time.

The Loveland Sculpture Invitational is sponsored by The Loveland Sculpture Group, a non-profit organization.  Their mission is to encourage and support sculptors nationwide and to give back to new, emerging artists.  Over the years, The Group has donated over 30 sculptures valued at $275,000.  In meeting the goals of their mission statement, The Group has also contributed $253,000 to local art education programs and other non-profits. The Loveland Sculpture Invitational will take place on August 9, 10, 11, 2013. The public is encouraged to attend; $7 for adults, 14 and under are free. For more information about the show or to pre-order tickets, visit http://lovelandsculptureinvitational.org

Bobservation – School board transparency

school board editorialLoveland knows that bobsheartbeats.com does not often delve into the world of politics.

I recently wrote an editorial for the Berthoud Surveyor (3/21) that deals with our local Thompson R2-J Board of Education becoming less transparent.

(I am an ongoing contributing writer for Berthoud’s weekly newspaper.)

Here is what I wrote:

I am not a big fan of the trendy term “transparency.” I know it implies openness, communication, and accountability, especially in government matters and for government officials. I do like that concept.

Recently, the Thompson School District Board of Directors (or at least many of them) proactively clouded some of the transparency that we used to have with them.

Until this time, we as citizens had the ability to see information about our elected officials. For whatever reason, most of the local school board members altered their publically viewed information. Now, it not possible to see the home addresses or telephone numbers for most of the board of education. To his credit, the person representing Berthoud on the board –Bob Kerrigan—still has all his personal information listed.

What happened in January or February to prompt these changes?

Loveland Bobservation — restaurant for sale

Island Grill Loveland Loveland has many good restaurants.  They seem to come and go.  Here is some news on one that is for sale.

I started hearing a few that Loveland’s Island Grill  (in Palmer Gardens) was possibly going to be for sale.  Now, it looks like this is true.

The listing says the real estate is not for sale just the business.  If you have a spare $199,000, you can own it.

I hope someone takes it over.  I like the place, and it is good for use “westsiders” of Loveland so we don’t have to venture way out east.

Bobservation — Loveland coffee cart

Gotta Joe coffee cartGotta Joe’s coffee is coffee is gone.  BobsHeartbeats reported on this a few days ago.

Now I see their mobile coffee cart is for sale on Craiglist.

Here are the particulars on the sale of the Gotta Joe’s coffee cart:

Have you ever wanted to run a mobile coffee business? We’re selling one! We’re currently operating as Gotta Joe’s Coffee between the Conoco and Best Western on the SW corner of the I-25/Hwy 34 interchange (5518 E Hwy 34, Loveland, CO, 80538).

$16,000 for the entire business. Possibly sell the trailer without equipment for $10K.

Here’s the specs:

- Wells Cargo trailer, 16′x8′, dual axle, removable hitch. 2 service windows (rear end and passenger side). Contains 3 compartment sink, and hand-sink. Electrical 220V/50amp.
- We did a lot of work on the interior: plenty of shelving and storage.

The following equipment is available with it:
- Bunn Coffee Grinder model G1-HD black.

- Curtis Coffee Brewer model SCALP3DS63A000. It has 3 warming plates and 3 carafes.

- La Mazzarocco Grinder, made in Italy. Model Swift E. P. S. B.– has two 4lb bean hoppers and does the tamping for you. (New, these things run $5000!)

For ALL OF THIS, trailer included, we are asking $16,000. That’s right, a whole, ready-to-go business for $16,000. You could potentially be up and running as soon as you had a location and got through the licensing and health department. We can share info about our suppliers, too.

We are possibly open to selling the trailer without the coffee equipment for $10,000.

As mentioned, we’re currently operating. Once we have a buyer, we are prepared to close up shop pretty quickly. We’re open from 5:30 AM-1 PM Monday through Saturday and you can swing by to take a look then. You can catch someone somewhat knowledgeable Mondays through Thursdays. If you want to talk to someone extremely knowledegable, try Friday or Saturday before 8 AM.

We can also meet outside of our operating hours if that works for your schedule, reply via e-mail to set up an appointment or ask questions.

UPDATE: After Thursday, Feb. 28th, we will be closed and you may take a look at the trailer by appointment only. Thanks!
